Mrs Ganduje was previously invited to report to the EFCC’s Abuja headquarters on September 13, according to PREMIUM TIMES. However, she failed to arrive, prompting the EFCC to threaten her with arrest. According to those close to her, she was in the UK at the time to attend her son’s graduation ceremony.
Mrs Ganduje is being questioned by investigators in connection with charges of land theft made in a lawsuit filed by her own son, Abdualzeez Ganduje.
โShe was arrested today (Monday) evening,โ said a source with knowledge of the arrest who did not want to be identified.
According to this newspaper, Mrs Ganduje was still in the EFCC offices as of 6 a.m. on Monday.
According to people acquainted with the situation, Abdulazeez had taken his mother, Hafsat Ganduje, to the EFCC, indicating a pattern of corruptly exploiting family influence for personal gain.
The governor, Mr Ganduje, has previously been implicated in a corruption issue. Since 2018, when the Daily Nigerian revealed a series of videos showing the governor taking money from a gypsy, he has tried to extricate himself from the public notion that he is a corrupt public worker.
According to people familiar with Abdulazeez’s appeal, he claimed that he was approached by a property developer to assist in the acquisition of several land plots in Kano for hundreds of thousands of dollars and at least 35 million naira in “facilitation commission.”
