Lothar Matthaus believes that Hansi Flick holds the potential to rejuvenate Barcelona’s glory days, particularly reminiscent of the era under Pep Guardiola’s management.

Flick is anticipated to be appointed as the head coach of La Blaugrana soon, following a reversal in club president Joan Laporta’s decision to retain Xavi.

“Under Pep Guardiola, Barcelona epitomized spectacle and exceptional football. Hansi can reignite this magic,” Matthaus remarked in an interview with Bild.

“Hansi’s style aligns well with Barcelona. He advocates for offensive and attractive play. With [Marc-Andre] ter Stegen, [Ilkay] Gundogan, and [Robert] Lewandowski, he already possesses three key figures, which is crucial. Making Gundogan captain at the DFB speaks volumes of their special bond.

“Barcelona boasts highly talented players and, despite economic challenges, consistently finds avenues for transfers. Moreover, there are numerous gems within the club that Hansi, known for nurturing talent, will refine.”

Barcelona is poised to secure second place in La Liga this season, as Xavi leads them for one final time against Sevilla, currently in 13th place, on Sunday.

Flick is reportedly set to sign a two-year contract with Barcelona, marking his return to club management since his highly successful tenure with Bayern Munich from 2019 to 2021.
