Germany’s Football Association (FA) has expressed its intention to retain Julian Nagelsmann beyond the conclusion of Euro 2024, despite reported interest from Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.
Nagelsmann assumed the role of head coach for the German national team in September under a short-term contract until the culmination of the European Championship.
While speculation suggests Nagelsmann could return to club management after the summer, the German FA has openly communicated its desire to persuade him to remain in his current position.

Bernd Neuendorf, president of the German FA, stated on Thursday: “There is a strong rapport. Julian has indicated his preference for clarity regarding his future before Euro 2024. We certainly support such a request.”
Earlier this month, Nagelsmann emphasized his readiness to commit to a new contract before Euro 2024 if the terms were satisfactory and he felt comfortable with the decision.
“If I receive a contract offer before the Euros that aligns with my expectations and provides a sense of comfort, I would likely sign it before the tournament,” he explained. “At present, there are no concrete offers on the table, so I cannot provide a definitive answer. While the possibility of an agreement before the Euros exists, it’s also plausible that nothing materializes.”
It’s understood that Nagelsmann is among the candidates on Liverpool’s shortlist to succeed Jurgen Klopp, with Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen currently leading the race for the position.
Recent reports have also linked Nagelsmann with Dortmund, while speculation hints at a potential return to Bayern Munich following his departure in March 2023.
