Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has emphasized that for Arsenal and Liverpool to have a shot at winning the Premier League title this season, they must overcome Manchester City. Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville cautioned both the Gunners and the Reds against depending on other teams to do them favors.
City’s comeback from a one-goal deficit to secure a 3-1 victory against United on Sunday places them just one point behind league leaders Liverpool. Arsenal could close in within two points of the top spot by defeating Sheffield United on Monday night.
City’s upcoming league fixtures include away matches against Liverpool next weekend and hosting Arsenal on March 31.

Neville expressed his anticipation for these upcoming games, emphasizing that they will reveal the true mettle of these teams. He sees City as the benchmark, the team that Arsenal and Liverpool must surpass. Neville stressed that to dethrone City, both Liverpool and Arsenal must directly beat them, rather than relying on the hope that City might drop points elsewhere.
“I can’t wait for these next couple of games because we will find out really what these teams are about. City are the barometer, that’s who they have to try and knock off the perch. That’s what you have to beat them – you can’t say ‘well City might drop points at that ground’ if you’re not beating them yourself. You have to beat them if you’re Liverpool and Arsenal,” Neville remarked.
