Gareth Southgate has issued a warning to Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford concerning his off-field behavior, especially in the lead-up to England’s squad announcement for Euro 2024.
Rashford faced consequences at United, being excluded from their FA Cup fourth-round victory over Newport County after missing training following a night out in a Belfast nightclub. Despite initially claiming illness, the 26-year-old later admitted responsibility for the incident and was reintegrated into the first-team by United manager Erik ten Hag.
However, Southgate has raised doubts about Rashford’s place in the England squad, cautioning the forward about his conduct. Southgate remarked, “We’re five weeks away from picking a squad, although so much happens to players over the period between November and March that we’re always sitting and observing everything on and off the pitch.”

With two friendlies against Brazil and Belgium scheduled for late March, Southgate acknowledged the attention on the upcoming squad selection, being the final one before the Euros. Rashford, with 59 caps for England, faces competition for a place in the attacking line alongside Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka, with other contenders including Jack Grealish, Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, James Maddison, and Phil Foden.
Rashford’s contributions at the club level include five goals and six assists in 28 games for United this season, with four goal involvements in his last five Premier League outings.
