According to the former president Goodluck Jonathan, he has no regrets in endorsing Bayelsa State governor Douye Diri for reelection in the off-cycle governorship election on November 11, 2023.

Jonathan claimed that the goals of the vast majority of the state’s citizens were in line with his open support of the governor. He made this statement when Governor Diri’s powerful team paid him a visit at his Yenagoa home.

The former president, who was accompanied by his spouse, Dame Patience Jonathan, praised the governor for his efforts to promote development, especially in maintaining peace and stability within the state.

He emphasized the need of security in luring in investors and mentioned the governor’s important contribution to drastically curtailing the operations of cult groups, particularly in Yenagoa.

Jonathan, expressing his support, emphasized the idea that “to whom much is given, much is expected” and asked Governor Diri to keep up his hard work in order to meet the high expectations of the people.

Governor Diri responded by thanking the former president for his endorsement and pointing out how much it had helped the Peoples Democratic Party perform well in the polls. He acknowledged that Jonathan’s backing had been crucial in maintaining state stability and fostering an atmosphere that attracted private investors.
