Cathy, the wife of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, has sadly passed away at the age of 84. She peacefully departed on Thursday morning in Cheshire.
A statement on behalf of the Ferguson family conveyed, “We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing yesterday of Lady Cathy Ferguson, survived by her husband, three sons, two sisters, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. The family requests privacy during this difficult time.”
The love story between Ferguson and Cathy began in 1964 when he was just 23 years old, and the two exchanged vows in 1966. They are blessed with three children: Mark, born in 1968, and twins Darren and Jason, born in 1972.

Darren currently serves as the manager of League One side Peterborough United and has also managed clubs such as Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers.
Reflecting on his home life, Ferguson once remarked, “Cathy is fantastic with the kids. It’s a military operation with her. If any of them misbehave, they’re in the doghouse.” He also disclosed that Cathy played a significant role in his decision not to retire in 2002, as she told him, “One, your health is good, Two, I’m not having you in the house. And three, you’re too young anyway.”
Ferguson eventually concluded his illustrious career in 2013. He revealed that he would have continued if not for the passing of Cathy’s twin sister, Bridget.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Ferguson explained, “I definitely would have carried on. I saw she [Cathy] was watching television one night, and she looked up at the ceiling. I knew she was isolated. Her and Bridget were twins, you know?”
In his farewell speech after his final match at Old Trafford, Ferguson paid heartfelt tribute to Cathy, acknowledging her role as the family’s leader and her sacrifices over their 47 years together.
