Former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac emerges as a surprising contender to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, according to reports.
While Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim is currently the frontrunner for the position, 90min understands that Liverpool is still considering multiple candidates and has yet to finalize an agreement.
The Daily Mail reports that Kovac, who previously managed Bayern from 2018 to 2019, is ‘under serious consideration’ to fill the managerial vacancy at Anfield.

Kovac’s representatives have explored his availability to Premier League clubs during a recent visit to London, aiming to secure him a new coaching position after his dismissal from Wolfsburg last month.
During his brief tenure at Bayern, Kovac secured three trophies but notably suffered elimination from the 2018/19 Champions League at the hands of eventual winners Liverpool. His tenure also saw Bayern’s memorable 7-2 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the group stage of the subsequent Champions League campaign. However, he departed the club by mutual consent following a 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt shortly afterward.
Following his departure from Bayern, Kovac took the helm at Monaco in the summer of 2020. During his tenure, Monaco reached the Coupe de France final and secured qualification to the Champions League play-off round in his first full season. However, he resigned midway through the 2021/22 campaign.
Kovac’s most recent managerial stint was at Wolfsburg, where he once again parted ways during his second season. In the 2022/23 season, Wolfsburg narrowly missed out on Europa League qualification by a single point. He was subsequently replaced at Wolfsburg by former Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
