Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, has expressed his sorrow over the death of former Cameroon international Modeste Mbami, who passed away on Saturday in Paris, France, at the age of 40 after suffering a heart arrest.
Few hours after Modeste Mbami’s death was reported, FIFA’s president shared a photo of the formerly versatile midfielder on Instagram with the words “Such Sad News, RIP Modeste Mbami.”
Mbami Modeste was a skilled and powerful player in his time who played the majority of his career in France with Sedan, PSG (where he won two French Cups), and Marseille before having stints in China, Saudi Arabia, Columbia, and Spain with Almeria.
The 1.80m will be remembered for his incredible Olympic quarterfinal goal against Brazil in Sydney, Australia, in 2000. Cameroon went on to win the gold medal at the competition.
