The Flamingos of Nigeria were recognized by FIFA after they defeated the Germany Under 17 Women’s National Team to earn their first-ever bronze medal.
The team, which was captained by Bankole Olowookere, had a memorable performance at the recently concluded 2022 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup. They made history by becoming the first team to advance to the semifinals and, on Sunday, they were able to take home the bronze medal.
Prior to losing to Colombia’s Under 17 Women’s National Team in a penalty shootout in the semifinal, Nigeria had defeated teams like New Zealand, Chile, and the United States of America. Nigeria then defeated Germany in the third-place match to win the bronze medal.
