Facebook, the world’s most popular social media platform, has changed its name to Meta.
The name change was thought to be due to the company’s growth into the emerging Metaverse.
Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, announced the news during the company’s annual Connect conference, saying that while the social media platform would continue to be known as Facebook, the umbrella organization will now be known as Meta.

While Facebook was one of the most widely used products on the planet, he claimed that the name no longer reflected the actual scope of the company’s aspirations.
Facebook’s goals to develop the metaverse, a hypothetical digital realm with origins in the 1992 sci-fi novel Snow Crash, were revealed by Zuckerberg, who said the metaverse will allow us to work, shop, learn, and play in virtual reality locations.
