Kane’s penalty was awarded after Denzel Dumfries inadvertently clipped the England captain while attempting to block a shot. The VAR team advised Zwayer to review the incident, leading to the German official awarding Gareth Southgate’s team a penalty.
When asked about Zwayer’s performance, Van Dijk commented to beIN Sports, “I’m not sure what to say. I don’t know if I should say anything about this. But I think it speaks volumes that the referee quickly entered the tunnel after the match and didn’t have time to shake hands.”
