Germany football legend Didi Hamann criticized Cristiano Ronaldo, labeling him “embarrassing” for his reaction after missing a penalty against Slovenia at Euro 2024.
Ronaldo’s penalty during extra time was saved by Jan Oblak, leaving the score at 0-0. The 39-year-old was visibly emotional, seen in tears at halftime during extra time while teammates offered consolation.
Portugal eventually won 3-0 in a penalty shootout, with Diogo Costa saving three penalties, including one from Ronaldo, who converted his own effort before apologizing to fans.

Speaking on RTE, Hamann remarked:
“The 39-year-old plays 120 minutes, misses a penalty, and I have to say, I believed all that ‘Ronaldo has become a team player because he needs the team more than before.’ I fell for that nonsense too, but I think he showed his true colors again tonight.
“Missing the penalty, crying on the pitch, crying at halftime during extra time. And I’m thinking, ‘it’s all about you.’
“There’s a squad of 26 players, 20 staff members, and 30 or 40,000 fans in there. It’s not about you.”
