Earlier in the season, Ten Hag criticized Jadon Sancho’s work ethic, leading to the winger’s removal from the first team after he described his manager’s comments as “completely untrue” following a 3-1 loss at Arsenal.

Explaining Garnacho’s substitution, Ten Hag mentioned the need to bolster the right side of the team, highlighting deficiencies in possession and the decision to introduce fresh energy and quality in cooperation and togetherness on that flank. Despite his contributions, including providing an assist for Bruno Fernandes’ first equalizer against Bournemouth, Garnacho’s performance also included an error that led to Dominic Solanke’s opening goal.
