When confronted with questions about the potential of this season becoming United’s worst in Premier League history, particularly if they slip below seventh place, Ten Hag chose not to engage with the media. The team’s current standing of seventh follows their 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, coinciding with Newcastle’s victory over Tottenham earlier in the day. If United finish below seventh, it will mark their lowest position since the inception of the Premier League in 1992.
As Ten Hag prepared to leave, he rose from his seat, dismissing the relevance of the question and stating it as ‘unimportant’ before exiting the room.

However, earlier in the press conference, he defended his squad, emphasizing their resilience and character.
“We have a team that is resilient, has character, we want to win. Twice we fought back from losing positions,” he stated.
Yet, he acknowledged areas for improvement, particularly in defensive organization and ball retention, attributing some lapses to the team’s youth and inexperience.
While praising his players’ efforts, Ten Hag underscored the demanding nature of competing in the Premier League and emphasized the need for his squad to adapt and rise to the challenges posed by their opponents.
