EPL: “We all make mistakes,” Maresca admits after telling Chelsea star to leave.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has admitted it may have been a mistake to try and push Ben Chilwell out of the club this summer. Maresca had excluded Chilwell from first-team training in an attempt to force his exit.

However, the England defender remained at Stamford Bridge and featured in the second half of their Carabao Cup match against Barrow on Wednesday.

When asked about the situation during Friday’s press conference, Maresca responded, “We all make mistakes. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t. I’m here to make decisions, and sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re not.

“The only thing I can say is that there was no bad intention. I just try to assess the situation and make the best choices for the club.”
