Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has recognized Southampton as one of the top teams in the Premier League when it comes to defending with the ball.
Guardiola made this statement after his side’s 1-0 victory against Southampton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, thanks to a first-half goal from Erling Haaland.
In an interview with BBC Match of the Day, Guardiola praised the visitors for their demanding style of play, noting their effectiveness in maintaining possession.

“The way they played, they are so demanding. They defend with the ball,” the Spaniard said. “You can defend with the ball, and they are really good at it—one of the best in the Premier League.”
He added, “They didn’t create many chances, but we created a lot. Unfortunately, we couldn’t score a second. I give big credit to them; it wasn’t due to us being sloppy or flat; I don’t have that feeling. We have to accept that.”
