Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has explained why he handed the team’s penalty to captain Martin Odegaard during their 5-2 victory at West Ham on Saturday.
The Gunners were already 2-0 up, with goals from Gabriel Magalhães and Leandro Trossard, when Saka was fouled in the box. The 23-year-old decided to let Odegaard take the penalty, allowing him to score his first goal of the season.

Saka, however, converted the second penalty awarded before the break to seal Arsenal’s fifth goal.

When asked about his decision, Saka said:
“Odegaard wanted to take the penalty… I’m more than happy to give him the ball. He always gives me the ball, so we have a good connection. Martin is a top player, and he’s been playing so well since he came back.”
