Reece James, a defender for Chelsea, has signed a new contract with the Blues that will keep him with the team through 2027, the club has announced, making him the highest-paid defender in the team’s history.
The defender had already committed to a long-term contract in 2020, but he has now reached an agreement on one with significantly better terms to reflect his increasing significance to Thomas Tuchel’s team now that the former Wigan loanee is the center of the Blues’ inventiveness.
The 22-year-old wingback, who is fully at ease playing right center back in a back three, has established himself as one of the first names on Thomas Tuchel’s teamsheet. However, when playing at wing-back, the Englishman poses a constant threat to the opposition’s right flank.

James, who has been at Stamford Bridge since he was six years old, lost no time in expressing his happiness there.

I’ve been a fan of this club since I was six years old, and I grew up doing so. Because this is the club I want to be at, I signed a new contract. We have a bright future ahead of us, and I’d like to especially thank the fans for their support.
James, a graduate of the Chelsea academy, has made 128 appearances for the Blues so far and is one of the most crucial players at the team, as seen by the length of his contract and his pay.
