Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, conceded that his team deserved the 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Luis Díaz secured the victory for the hosts, with Christopher Nkunku scoring one for Chelsea in the second half.
Pochettino remarked, “It was evident they outperformed us in every aspect. We consistently lost duels and struggled to maintain possession after the first or second touch. The outcome is well deserved for them. While we made some adjustments in the second half and had opportunities, Liverpool ultimately proved superior.”

Reflecting on the game, Pochettino added, “In the second half, we changed our approach, and Mudryk had a clear chance to score. However, we conceded shortly after. Despite pulling one back with Nkunku’s goal, and a potential penalty opportunity, there’s no room for complaints about the decision. Liverpool was simply better than us. Although the outcome was unfortunate, it doesn’t alter the fact that Liverpool outperformed us.”
The result leaves Chelsea in 10th place with 31 points after 22 games.
