Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has criticized Chelsea for parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino.

On Tuesday, Chelsea announced that Pochettino would no longer serve as the manager at Stamford Bridge, with both parties reportedly agreeing to the decision.

Merson expressed disbelief at Chelsea’s move, labeling it a significant error. In a video posted on his X account, he voiced his surprise following the club’s announcement.

He argued that Pochettino had recently achieved success with the team on the pitch and deserved more time in his role.

“Just seen the news about Pochettino. Cannot believe he’s gone. Cannot believe. I mean, whoever’s making this decision is – I, I just – how are you going to replace the manager?

“Like he just got the team going. Went on a great run. Getting to Europe, got into seventh in the league from where [corrects himself] sixth in the league from where they were, you know, and he’s just got his team playing. It’s madness. I cannot believe what I’m hearing,” Merson stated.

Chelsea is now in the process of searching for their next manager.
