Jose Mourinho has stated that Manchester United did not provide him with the same level of backing they have given to Erik ten Hag. Speaking to the UK Telegraph, Mourinho emphasized that he could have performed better if he had been granted the trust and support that Ten Hag currently enjoys.

During his tenure at United from 2016 to 2018, Mourinho secured the Europa League and Carabao Cup titles. However, he was dismissed when his team was 11 points behind the Champions League qualification places in December 2018.

Reflecting on his time at the club, Mourinho remarked, “My relationship with [former chief executive] Ed Woodward was good on a personal level. Even now, we exchange messages. However, from a professional standpoint, it wasn’t ideal. I am who I am; I am a football man. Ed comes from a different background, and what Ten Hag has experienced at Manchester United, I didn’t have.”
