Gabriel Agbonlahor has identified Chelsea star Kai Havertz as an early contender for the 2022–23 Premier League flop of the Season award.

Havertz, who has three years left on his Stamford Bridge contract, joined the Blues from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2020 in a deal worth up to £71 million.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Agbonlahor called Havertz a failure and chastised him for his lackluster goal-scoring ability. He stated:

“Last season, everyone predicted that Havertz would be thrilling the next year since he was accustomed to the Premier League, but this year, he appears lost.

“He isn’t making use of his size and strength. He’s losing patience and squandering opportunities that he shouldn’t be.

Recall that N’golo Kante, a midfielder for Chelsea who is in the final year of his contract, reportedly received a verbal offer from the club last month regarding a new contract extension. If the 31-year-old doesn’t agree with Chelsea’s demands for the new contract, he will be free to chat and bargain with other teams in January.

Kante was offered a two-year contract by Chelsea with an option to extend it by one more year, but the French midfielder declined the offer because the previous management was prepared to give him a three-year agreement with an extension clause at the end of the third season.
