When former Red Taiwo Awoniyi scored to give Nottingham Forest an improbable lead in their Premier League match, it stunned Liverpool.
Awoniyi’s goal against his former team in the 55th minute, after Liverpool had squandered two excellent chances to take the lead, brought the City Ground to life.
Awoniyi relished his opportunity to play against his former club Liverpool. First, it was Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk who made a costly error, heading the ball wide with the goal at his mercy from only a few yards out.

The ball appeared to have been nodded toward Roberto Firmino, who was sprinting to join him in the area, according to replays, but the pass had too much force and soared beyond of the Brazilian striker and the goal.
Salah then found himself unmarked at the back post and had a fantastic opportunity to score, but he utterly missed the ball as he tried to volley it in.
And barely ten minutes into the second half, Forest took full advantage of those two errors as Awoniyi scored off a free kick to send the City Ground into a frenzy.
While Van Dijk was positioned on the other side of the field, it was Awoniyi who was fouled for the free kick close to the halfway line. Joe Gomez may have been fortunate to escape with only a yellow card after he stopped the striker from running clean through on goal.
Awoniyi received the free kick from Steve Cook, who fizzed a low cross into him. His first shot, which deflected off the post and past an outstretched Alisson, was fortunate because he quickly reacted with the follow-up to score into the top left corner.
