The legendary John Terry of Chelsea has informed Graham Potter, the manager, that first impressions matter.
On Saturday, Potter led the Blues to their first Premier League victory at Crystal Palace after drawing his first game in charge in the Champions League against Red Bull Salzburg.
“I think you get them onside by, day one, everyone is going to be watching,” Terry stated on beIN Sports. How does he behave in that initial meeting or training session? What posture does he adopt? Can he manage such a large changing room?

The players say “Ooh hello” if he has been there since day one and has set his marker down. similar to how we behaved when Mourinho took over. He entered the room and declared, “I’m in command,” even though no one had really heard of him. The players will appreciate [Potter] if they see him doing similarly off the field as well as on it.
I honestly don’t think it is [beyond him], the former England defender added. I believe Potter did an amazing job at Brighton, and their standing in the league speaks for itself. When you talk to someone on the practice field or in the neighborhood, what he’s done on the field – the way he plays, the formation – has spoken for itself.
Additionally, I think that in this day and age, a young manager needs to understand the players because of the manner he interacts with them. And I believe that young managers like him can relate to and understand players better than anyone.
