Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has identified Harvey Elliot and Dominik Szoboszlai as the potential successors to Mohamed Salah during his absence for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) this month.
Salah showcased his outstanding form against Newcastle United on Monday, scoring two goals and providing an assist, leading Liverpool to a crucial victory that placed them three points clear at the summit of the Premier League.
With Salah set to join the Egypt squad for AFCON, where he could miss up to eight Liverpool games if Egypt reaches the final, manager Jurgen Klopp faces a significant attacking dilemma.

Carragher has suggested that both Elliot and Szoboszlai could fill Salah’s position temporarily. Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher acknowledged the challenge, stating, “It will be very interesting to see who he puts in that position.”
Highlighting the right-footed dominance among Liverpool’s attackers, Carragher mentioned the versatility of some players on the left but noted a lack of balance on the right. He considered Elliot as a potential option, emphasizing his midfield background and the possibility of adapting to the front three.
Carragher also pointed out Szoboszlai as a candidate, citing Liverpool’s increased midfield options and the Hungarian player’s previous experience in a similar role for his former club. Despite the alternatives, Carragher acknowledged the difficulty in replacing Salah’s goal-scoring prowess.
