Enzo Maresca heaped praise on defender Wesley Fofana after Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.
Chelsea secured the win with a brace from Nicolas Jackson and a goal from Cole Palmer, taking advantage of West Ham’s defensive errors. The win marked another strong performance for Maresca, who has lost just once in the league this season, against Manchester City.
Maresca singled out Fofana for his impressive form, as the French defender has started all five of Chelsea’s league games after missing much of last season due to injury. “Wes is a player that I really love. I’m in love with Wes,” Maresca said. “He’s doing fantastic after being out for a year. It’s not easy to come back after such a long time, and he’s performing at the top level. That’s all we ask from him.”

Maresca also explained that Fofana’s substitution wasn’t due to injury but a precaution. “We took him off to protect him, especially as he was on a yellow card. When they brought on [Mohammed] Kudus, it was risky to keep him on, but there’s no injury.”
The Chelsea manager also praised Jadon Sancho, who recently joined from Manchester United. “Jadon did well. He worked hard off the ball against [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka and was solid in the second half. Pedro [Neto] came on and did well too, so we’re happy.”
Chelsea will face Barrow in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
