Nigeria’s Accountant General of the Federation has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Mr. Ahmed Idris is being investigated for an alleged N80 billion scam.

The anti-graft organisation announced it on Twitter, along with a photo of the AGF.

“Operations of the EFCC detained serving Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, on Monday, May 16, 2022, in connection with diversion of funds and money laundering operations to the tune of N80billion (Eighty Billion Naira) only,” it tweeted.

“The AGF raked in the monies through fake consultancies and other unlawful operations utilising proxies, family members, and close allies, according to the Commission’s verified intelligence.”

“The cash were laundered through Kano and Abuja real estate transactions.”

The EFCC said Mr. Idris was arrested after failing to honour invitations by the EFCC to respond to issues connected to the fraudulent acts.
