Borussia Dortmund has reportedly earned qualification for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup following RB Leipzig’s 2-1 aggregate loss to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
The tournament, expanded to include 32 teams from the initial seven, will mark Dortmund’s participation in the inaugural new format starting next year. The club made the announcement on their official website, stating: “It has been confirmed since Wednesday late evening that Borussia Dortmund has secured a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup.
“The revamped competition, featuring 32 clubs, is scheduled for the summer of 2025 and will be held in the USA from June 15 to July 13, 2025.

“UEFA will contribute twelve participants, consisting of the UEFA Champions League winners from 2021 to 2024, as well as the top clubs in a club ranking reflecting performance and success from the 2020/21 to 2023/24 seasons in the UEFA Champions League.
“National associations can send a maximum of two participants, unless there is an excess of Champions League winners in this period.
“The tournament will kick off on June 15, 2025, forming eight preliminary round groups, each with four teams. Four of these groups will feature two European clubs.
“The remaining 20 participants will include representatives from South America (six), Africa, Asia, North and Central America (four each), and Oceania (one). The final slot will be granted to a club from the host country, the USA.
“The top two teams from each group will advance to the round of 16, followed by a knockout system. The grand final is set for July 13, 2025.”
