Local hunters, who have historically provided security, have reportedly been overworked in their attempts to protect the village, according to a source who spoke over the phone.

Another community member, Bello Adamu, disclosed that the dead was the chief of the Sarkin Kudu chiefdom’s brother.

He claimed that after killing the district head, the attackers “escaped into the bush, and everyone in the area is living in fear because nobody knows the next target of the bandits.”

The incident has been confirmed, and council chairman Iliya Ajibu has stated that two people have been arrested in relation to it. He has also stated that an investigation is underway to apprehend further suspects.

When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Usman Abdullahi, said he was in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State capital, for a programme but promised to get back to our reporter as soon as he confirms the incident.
