Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has raised concerns regarding the high number of shots his team faces, despite manager Erik ten Hag consistently downplaying the issue.
This season, only Premier League newcomers Luton Town (576) have encountered more shots than United (574), with the Red Devils conceding over 20 shots in nine of their last ten league matches.
Ten Hag, who has faced criticism for implementing a tactical system that creates significant gaps between midfield and defense, has consistently defended his approach, emphasizing that the goals conceded statistic holds more significance than mere shot counts.

Following Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, Dalot stressed that United’s tactical setup exposes them excessively at the back, and they are actively seeking solutions to rectify this issue.
Dalot remarked, “I think it’s undeniable; it’s something we’re addressing. Perhaps we’re taking too many risks, sometimes leaving too much space between the defense and midfield.”
He continued, “This is why we’re often vulnerable to counterattacks and facing numerous shots. However, we’re committed to learning and improving from this experience.”
Reflecting on the draw, Dalot expressed disappointment at not securing all three points, highlighting moments where United lost control, particularly in defensive build-up situations that led to conceding two goals in the first half.
Despite the setback, Dalot underlined the team’s resilience and determination to fight for results, citing it as a positive aspect to take forward.
United will resume action on Sunday at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-finals against Championship side Coventry City.
