Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot has pulled out of Portugal’s squad for the upcoming international window. Portugal, having already secured a spot in the Euro 2024 Championships, will conclude Group J with matches against Liechtenstein and Iceland this week.
Under Roberto Martinez, Portugal has transformed into a potent attacking force, leading the continent with 32 goals in Euro 2024 qualifying. Despite this, they will have to navigate their final two fixtures without Dalot, who is unavailable for “personal reasons,” as confirmed by Manchester United. Joao Mario from Porto has taken Dalot’s place in the Portugal squad, making Bruno Fernandes the sole representative from Manchester United in Martinez’s lineup.
Dalot’s form at club level heading into the international window dipped, notably losing his runners during United’s 3-0 defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup and 4-3 loss to Copenhagen in the Champions League.

The 24-year-old has started each of United’s last ten Premier League games, at times filling in at left-back due to the first-team’s injury crisis presenting Erik ten Hag with a lack of options.
Despite their poor start to the season, Dalot and his United teammates kept clean sheets in back-to-back Premier League games for the first time this term prior to the international break, securing 1-0 wins away at Fulham and at home to Luton Town.
