On Sunday, the Delta State Police Command found two AK-47 rifles and stopped an attempted kidnapping in Delta State’s Okpe Local Government Area.
DSP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer, told PUNCH Metro on Monday in Asaba that CP Wale Abass had informed the populace that there would be constant, high-density patrols and operations throughout the holiday season.
“Crime intelligence operations throughout the Ember month period keep yielding positive results,” he stated. “On December 17, 2023, the operatives of the command successfully foiled an attempted kidnapping and recovered two AK-47 rifles.”

“The Command received reliable information regarding a group of suspected kidnappers in the Okpe LGA at 2130 hours on the aforementioned date.
Based on this information, the Commander of Safer Highway was instructed by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Police Command, CP Wale Abass, to mobilize the men stationed in the Sapele area.
When the Safer Highway Patrol team spotted a Toyota Camry 2.4 (REG. NO:GGE 645 FM) that fit the informant’s description and was traveling in their route, they decided to conduct a thorough stop and search near Okwutaiire Community, Okpe LGA, Delta State.
The driver and another passenger were forced to leap out of the moving car and run into a nearby thicket, leaving the vehicle and the 54-year-old man behind, as the driver saw the police and instantly swerved and raced off.
