Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has affirmed that the club has no plans to make any signings during the January transfer window. Despite acquiring five players in the summer, the club faced financial constraints, limiting their spending to €3.4m. This amount was utilized to secure the return of Oriol Romeu, with the other signings including free transfers Inigo Martinez and Ilkay Gundogan, as well as loan deals for Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.
Despite these additions, Barcelona’s recent performances have been disappointing. A notable defeat to Real Madrid in El Clasico was followed by three lackluster displays before the international break. While they secured victories in two of those matches, the unexpected loss to Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League and the team’s goal-scoring struggles against Real Sociedad and Deportivo Alaves have sparked speculation about potential January reinforcements.
In an interview with SPORT, sporting director Deco explicitly stated that, apart from Vitor Roque’s previously agreed-upon move to Barcelona, the club has no plans to make any additional signings in the upcoming transfer window.

Deco emphasized, “When the squad was initially assembled, it was designed for the entire year. That concept remains unchanged, and there are no intentions to alter it, irrespective of financial considerations. I don’t believe we’ll be making any moves in January, regardless of what happens with Roque.”
Barcelona invested €40m in securing Roque’s signature, but speculations have circulated that the club might face challenges registering the forward’s contract as initially planned in January due to financial constraints—rumors that Deco did not dispel in his interview.
He acknowledged the evolving landscape in La Liga, stating, “There have been some changes in La Liga, and we need to assess it. We have individuals within the club, including financiers and those associated with La Liga, who interpret the regulations based on our specific circumstances. We will convene and strategize on how to navigate through this situation.”
