Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has expressed his enthusiasm for adapting to a new possession-based style of play under Arne Slot.

Slot, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp, is known for his emphasis on ball control and precise defensive tackling, contrasting with Klopp’s direct and aggressive approach that led Liverpool to Premier League and Champions League victories.

Jones, excited about the increased responsibility this style offers central midfielders, shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s progress under Slot: “He’s amazing. It’s probably the happiest I’ve been with a playing style that suits me. There’s a clear plan in training, and he’s deeply involved, focusing on the finer details. He understands it’s a big change and is patient, knowing the quality is there.”

Reflecting on his evolution as a player, Jones noted, “I’ve had to adapt my game since joining the team, but this new approach feels more natural to me. I can get on the ball more and play in a way that suits my strengths. I’m really excited about it.”

He also highlighted the shift in tactics: “In the past, we were more direct and quick to press. Now, we aim to control the game, patiently breaking down teams and maintaining possession. We’ll still press when we lose the ball, but our focus is on dominating possession and gradually dismantling our opponents.”

Last season, Jones made 23 Premier League appearances, contributing a goal and an assist as Liverpool finished third and secured the Carabao Cup.
