Real Madrid lost to Villarreal 2-1 Friday evening at the Estadio De La Ceramica, handing them their second La Liga loss of the year. The first half ended scoreless, but Villarreal was undoubtedly the superior team because they posed more of a threat. In the 47th minute, Yeremi Pino gave Villarreal the lead.
Karim Benzema, a French international, scored Real Madrid’s equalizer from the penalty spot in the 59th minute, giving the Los Blancos hope of mounting a comeback. However, those hopes were dashed when the referee also gave Villarreal a penalty.
In order to give his team a victory and a clean sweep at home, Gerard Moreno stepped up and made the conversion.
