Senegal’s highest honor, the National Order of the Lion, was bestowed upon Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of the Dangote Group, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by his Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the President praised Dangote for what he called his remarkable industry and extensive influence in providing opportunities and meeting critical needs, both inside and outside of Nigeria.
“President Macky Sall of Senegal has awarded President Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Group, the National Order of the Lion,” stated the statement, which was signed by President Bola Tinubu.

On February 2, 2024, the renowned businessman will receive the highest honor granted by Senegal, the award.
“The industrialist’s enterprise and ingenuity have created jobs and opportunities for many people in Nigeria and throughout West Africa, as well as contributed to their economies, which the award further affirms. President Tinubu applauds this.” The President expresses gratitude to Mr. Dangote and sends him best wishes for all of his endeavors.
Established on October 22, 1960, the National Order of the Lion is a Senegalese honor bestowed upon individuals for their remarkable services in both the military and the civil spheres.
The Order of Merit is the second national order of Senegal, after this one.
