It appears that Chelsea will soon announce the signing of forward Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.

The Frenchman reportedly reached a personal agreement with the Blues while undergoing a physical last year. Although neither club has officially confirmed it, according to Fabrizio Romano, the two parties have agreed to a transfer for the summer of 2023.

Nkunku’s career began where?

PSG’s Christopher Nkunku
Nkunku, who graduated from Paris Saint-development Germain’s program, made his Champions League debut for the team from the French capital in December 2015 when he entered the game as a substitute against Shakhtar Donetsk.

He played frequently for PSG during the following four years, but he was unable to secure a berth in the starting XI because to the embarrassing wealth that then-manager Thomas Tuchel had at his disposal. As a result, he needed to relocate in order to advance his profession, and Leipzig in Germany swooped in.

What are Nkunku’s RB Leipzig statistics?

Nkunku has flourished in Germany, which has a reputation for nurturing youthful talent. He has 159 appearances across all competitions and 64 goals and 51 assists. With 12 goals in 15 games this season, he currently leads the German top flight in goals scored.

Nkunku’s brilliance was evident as soon as he was transferred to Leipzig, but it wasn’t until last seasonโ€”the 2021/22 campaignโ€”that all of Europe’s elite clubs began to take notice of him.

In all competitions, the 25-year-old scored and set up 20 goals, including a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League. Additionally, he scored as Leipzig triumphed to capture their first-ever major prize in the German Cup final.

He won the Bundesliga Player of the Year title ahead of players like Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland because, quite simply, he was unstoppable.

What about his career abroad?

It took Nkunku until March of this year to make his debut for Les Bleus, when he began against the Ivory Coast, due to the fierce rivalry for spots in the team. Eight caps are currently next to his name.

Nkunku was a member of Didier Deschamps’ 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar, but he missed the flight due to an injury he sustained just before the competition began.

Nkunku began his career as an offensive midfielder and occasionally played on the wings.

Nkunku plays what position on the field?

He has evolved into a second striker, though, and has tended to play a more advanced, center position. He has been playing up front for Leipzig this season alongside Timo Werner, and the two have been terrorizing rival defenses.
