Chelsea’s frustration was palpable as they twice squandered leads against the 10-man Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
In a surprisingly open first half filled with chances at both ends, Chelsea managed to take the lead right at the end when Burnley’s Lorenz Assignon was sent off for a second booking, conceding a penalty for his clumsy challenge on Mykhailo Mudryk. Cole Palmer confidently converted the spot-kick with a cheeky chip straight down the middle.
However, Burnley leveled the score just minutes into the second half, with Josh Cullen smashing in a powerful strike from outside the box.

Palmer regained the lead for Chelsea with a composed finish after a delightful flick from Raheem Sterling, only for Burnley to swiftly respond again as Dara O’Shea headed in from a set-piece.
Despite an early half-chance for Palmer, Burnley dominated possession in the opening minutes of the second half. Chelsea had their moments too, with Enzo Fernandez seeing his shot deflected onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Arijanet Muric after a high-pressing move.
