Chelsea fans are drawing comparisons between new signing Marc Guiu and former striker Diego Costa after his standout performance in a 3-0 pre-season friendly win against Club America.
Following a 2-2 draw with Wrexham and a 4-1 defeat to Scottish champions Celtic, Guiu’s display against the Mexican side provided a much-needed boost. The 18-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona for a reported £5 million, scored his first goal for the club with a well-taken header, evoking comparisons to Costa.
Under new manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea looked sharp in their victory, with Christopher Nkunku and Noni Madueke adding penalties around Guiu’s goal. Fellow new signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall delivered a precise cross for Guiu’s header.
