Chelsea made the announcement that Laurence Stewart, a technical director from Monaco, would be joining the team to create a new transfer “thought tank” to manage player recruiting.

Stewart, who joined the Ligue 1 club in June 2020 as technical director, will join Chelsea once his obligations to AS Monaco are fulfilled. The team achieved back-to-back third-place finishes in Ligue 1 and advanced to the 2021 French Cup finals while he was at Monaco.

Laurence formerly served as Red Bull Soccer International’s global head of scouting before taking on the position of technical director at Monaco. Earlier in his career, Laurence held the positions of senior recruitment coordinator at Everton, head of performance analysis at Manchester City, and performance analyst for the England national team during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
