Respected journalist Ben Jacobs claims that Maddison is the type of creative player Chelsea may end up going after.

In fact, he asserts that the Blues administration has already mentioned the name of the Leicester star.

On the ChelseaFC365 podcast, Jacobs stated: “I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if his form keeps up, especially if there are some departures, even with Mount still at the club, if Chelsea start to consider someone like a James Maddison.

Maddison is a very versatile player, so even if Pulisic or Ziyech left, he could still play with Mount.

“I’m hearing more and more whispers about Chelsea, at least taking a guy like James Maddison into consideration.”

Summertime price tag of £60m

The way Maddison has played for Leicester over the past couple of years shows he is more than capable of playing for one of the top English sides.

But Chelsea needs to decide if they have room in the side for someone like him.

Newcastle United expressed interest in Leicester’s talisman in August, according to The Daily Mail, but only offered to pay £35 million.

It makes sense that the Foxes might increase Maddison’s value even further if he manages to sneak into the England team for the winter World Cup. It’s important to note that his current King Power Stadium contract does expire in 2024.
