Chelsea has decided against pursuing a transfer for Al Ittihad striker Karim Benzema, as per a report. The Blues are open to acquiring a new forward this month but are reserving a significant move for the summer, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen anticipated as a top target.

When reports suggested that Benzema might be seeking a return to Europe from Saudi Arabia, Chelsea was quickly mentioned as potential suitors, with fans excited about the possibility of a six-month loan for the 36-year-old. However, according to The Athletic, Chelsea has ruled out a move for Benzema before the January transfer window closes.

Chelsea officials are inclined to avoid costly acquisitions of older players and instead focus on recruiting young, emerging talents. The potential move away from Saudi Arabia for Benzema was considered unlikely this month, as league officials were reluctant to part ways with a significant figure in their project after just six months, as reported by 90min earlier this month.

Benzema himself has sought to dispel speculation, and his brother publicly dismissed reports of a possible return to Real Madrid. With the transfer window closing soon, Chelsea has limited time to make major changes in the striker department. While they are open to offers for striker Armando Broja, the substantial price tag on the Albania international may restrict his options before the month’s end.

Looking ahead to the summer, Chelsea aims to have more financial flexibility and plans to address their goalscoring needs. Osimhen, a long-term target with a release clause exceeding £100m, is expected to be on their radar.
