According to the Daily Mail, Roma will need to pay £37 million to Chelsea if they intend to secure Romelu Lukaku on a permanent contract next summer. Lukaku, who is presently on loan with the Serie A team, has impressively netted seven goals in eight appearances across all competitions.
After enjoying a strong start under the management of Jose Mourinho, Roma might consider the possibility of retaining the services of the Belgian striker.
Reportedly, Chelsea included a £37 million release clause in his contract when they negotiated a £5 million loan fee with the Italian club. Initially, Chelsea had been focused on selling the 30-year-old during the previous summer transfer window. However, Lukaku rejected a move to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia and derailed a potential transfer to Inter Milan. Later, he decided against joining Juventus as well.
