A representative of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has refuted reports claiming that Super Eagles duo Victor Boniface and Ademola Lookman, along with Morocco’s Brahim Diaz, have been shortlisted for the African Footballer of the Year award.

According to a CAF media committee official, there is no truth to the reports suggesting these players were nominated for the prestigious award. The official clarified that any such announcements would come directly from CAF’s media team, as they have in previous editions.

“We, like everyone else, saw it on the internet. It didn’t come from CAF, so it should be dismissed. All official announcements are handled by our media team, and that hasn’t changed,” the official was quoted as saying.

Ademola Lookman, who had a stellar season with Atalanta, has been tipped by some to potentially dethrone Victor Osimhen as the next African Footballer of the Year. Lookman scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists last season, helping his team secure their first Europa League title with a historic hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.
