The ongoing first semester undergraduate examinations for the 2022–2023 academic session, as well as all other academic activities, have been postponed at Bayero University Kano (BUK) in response to the statewide strike action called for by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The statement was made via a special bulletin signed by the university’s acting registrar, Amina Umar Abdullahi, and published on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
The university administration made its choice based on the consensus of the University Unions to join the national walkout.

“After the national walkout by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), and the subsequent decision by the university unions to join the walkout, the management of Bayero University, Kano has decided to suspend all academic activities, including the ongoing undergraduate examinations for the 2022–2023 semester, until further notice,” the report said.
The institution advised students to maintain their composure and wait for additional management instructions.
The continuing exams were halfway completed, and the bulletin promised that they will pick back up after the strike is over.
