Actor and director Bruce Lorne Campbell was born in the United States on June 22, 1958. In the 1978 short film Within the Woods and subsequent installments of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead series, he is best known for playing Ash Williams. Crimewave (1985), Maniac Cop (1988), Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat (1989), and Bubba Ho-Tep (1989) are just a few of the low-budget cult movies in which he has acted (2002).

Campbell was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, to homemaker Joanne Louise (née Pickens) and advertising industry veteran Charles Newton Campbell, who spent 35 years working in the industry in a variety of positions, including traveling billboard inspector and company vice-president. Campbell later worked as an adjunct professor at nine colleges and was also an actor and director in regional theater.

Don and Michael Rendine, Campbell’s older half-brothers, are his older brothers. He is of English and Scottish ancestry.
