Controversial interior minister Suella Braverman was fired by British leader Rishi Sunak on Monday as part of a team reorganization ahead of the anticipated general election in 2019.

After weeks of divisive pro-Palestinian marches and counter-protests in Britain, opponents accused Sunak of inflaming tensions and increasing pressure to fire the vocal right-winger Braverman.

Who will take over for Braverman, who was appointed to the position shortly after Sunak became prime minister, is not yet known.

“Serving as home secretary has been the greatest privilege of my life,” Braverman remarked after being fired.
“In due course, I will have more to say,” she continued.

The dismissal occurs as the ruling Conservatives have announced that Sunak is leading his first significant cabinet reorganization since taking office on October 25, 2022.
The party posted on X, the former Twitter, saying, “Here we go.”

The amendments, which will be unveiled throughout the morning, are anticipated to benefit younger up-and-coming MPs and loyalists as the Tories’ popularity has declined over the course of nearly 14 years in power.

Throughout Sunak’s tenure in office, the party has consistently lagged behind the main Labour opposition by double digits, and the upcoming election is predicted to be a disaster.

Throughout her term, Braverman had fostered controversy by adopting a tough stance on immigration in particular and frequently delving into so-called “culture wars” themes that are said to have divided voters.

The right-wing politician claimed that returning asylum seekers to Rwanda was her “obsession” and “dream” shortly after taking office, branding her detractors as liberal “tofu-eating wokerati.”

However, after she penned an incendiary newspaper piece accusing police of favoring left-wing causes last weekโ€”ostensibly without Sunak’s consentโ€”her situation become more and more unsustainable.

It was held responsible for inflaming emotions leading up to a weekend of demonstrations against Israel’s war in Gaza, which fell on Armistice Day, and it sparked demands that she be fired.
