Jadon Sancho is on the verge of a return to Borussia Dortmund following a breakthrough in negotiations with Manchester United.
Sancho, who has been sidelined from the Red Devils since August, faced a fallout with Erik ten Hag after being omitted from the matchday squad against Arsenal due to perceived low performance levels in training. Despite Sancho disputing these claims on social media and refusing to apologize, tensions escalated, leading to the winger training separately from the first-team. His departure during the January transfer window has been widely anticipated.
Earlier reports suggested that Dortmund was considering bringing Sancho back on an initial loan deal, and German outlet BILD now reports that a loan move is nearing completion. While final details, including the loan fee and tax arrangements, are yet to be finalized, there is a belief that the deal will be completed shortly.

Sancho originally joined Dortmund in 2017 at the age of 17, leaving Manchester City in pursuit of regular first-team opportunities. After scoring 50 goals in 137 appearances, he moved to Manchester United for a £73m fee in 2021. However, his time at Old Trafford has not lived up to expectations, with only 12 goals in 82 appearances.
It is anticipated that Sancho will join the Dortmund squad in Marbella for a mid-season training camp on Friday. Dortmund’s upcoming schedule includes a friendly against AZ Alkmaar on Saturday, another match against Standard Liege on January 9, and a Bundesliga fixture against Darmstadt on January 13. Sancho is likely to make his second home debut on January 28 when Bochum visits Signal-Iduna Park.
Upon his return, Sancho will find Dortmund in fifth place in the Bundesliga, having not won any of their last six games. Despite this, they secured top spot in their Champions League group, setting up a last-16 tie with PSV Eindhoven.
