Unfortunate news: six hours after giving birth, Erica passed away. She was unable to recover since she had lost too much blood.

After this occurrence, Carlos was forced to care for his four children and deal with one of life’s most difficult obstacles.

Looking back, Carlos remarks that navigating through this challenging phase has not been simple. But the people’s affection and support give him the power he requires. He has received many presents, including $10,000 for each child, allowing him to begin saving for them right now.

“I went from having the best day of my life to the next morning experiencing the worst day of my life. My four little children came into the world, and soon after, I ʟᴏsᴛ the love of my life, my wife. She asked me how this could be happening to me. She was fine, and then she wasn’t. She was alive and suddenly she was gone.” These are doubts that still haunt Carlos’ mind.

The sadness is erased when he thinks how lucky he is to be able to return home and know that his children will be waiting for him. “I wish Erica had been here so she could have seen them walk and crawl for the first time. There is much news from the children and she will not be present.”

These funds were set aside for Sallie Mae University by the father, and now friends, family, and total strangers have banded together to contribute as well. Beyond money, though, what this father values most in life and what gives him the will to succeed is seeing the faces of his four children.
